Common questions
How many square feet does a gallon of paint cover?
Read the label: emulsions are typically rated around 350–450 sq ft per 3.64 L gallon for one coat on smooth plaster, which is about 100–120 sq ft per litre. Textured or rough walls take more, and the first coat on fresh putty always drinks more. Enter the figure for your product.
Do I need primer and putty?
On new plaster, usually yes: putty gives a smooth surface and primer seals it so the paint does not soak in unevenly. Many people putty only the walls; tick the surfaces you will actually treat. Repainting a sound painted wall often needs neither, just washing and a light sanding.
Gallon or drum?
A drum (14.56 L, four gallons) is usually cheaper per litre. Enter both prices and the calculator shows the cost of the pack plan; buy drums for the main colour and gallons for accent walls and trims. Keep the batch numbers the same for one room.
When can I paint new plaster?
Wait 3–4 weeks after plastering so it dries through. Paint on damp plaster peels and shows salt patches within months.
